Cheval glass was a new tradition for creating mirrors as an early work in high society. Mercury was a popular 18th century staple. A mirror was handmade by coating glass with a mix of tin and mercury. Mirrors were only simple squares as it wasn't possible to produce large glass until the late 18th century. This colonial tusk of cheval is adorned with heavy beam scraps to protect from damage in early settling. 12x10x3 inches. Very heavy weighing in at almost 6 pounds!
