Pantries were often in a root cellar. It could be dark from sun up to sun down where the pantry was found. All of the settler's main staples would be kept there. Often times a wire was twisted to hold a candlestick so mamma could find a piece of stone fruit or needful. A little metal pan was formed onto the back of the wire so the flame didn't get too hot against the old barn wood. This adorable piece is a must have for all of your primitive or colonial decor.
